Q and A with Sundus AL Khalidi (271 words, 1 min. read)

1. What inspired you to start painting?

There were ideas from causes that were popular at the time. For example, I addressed topics like women identity in the region and the relationship of the horse with the cart, as Arabian horses are considered symbol of strength and beauty.

2. Is there one story about an event or a person that changed your life?

When my paintings were selected for display at Opera Gallery, this made a significant change in my personal and professional life.

However, being one of Opera Gallery’s artists keeps you on your toes in a positive way. For instance the challenge to persist next to international giants urged me to relentlessly experiment with different techniques in order to continuously come up with innovative style all while sticking to the abstract one.

Thankfully, the echoes after my latest “Boundless Vision” exhibition at Rebirth Beirut, curated by Dr. Tony Karam, reflected to me how much impressed and happy the eminent art lovers and collectors were.

3. What is your main source of inspiration?

What inspires me and trigger my imagination are ancient walls and ruins. Moreover, the arid soil/lands and estates.

4. Name one artist that you would like to own an artwork from and why?

Mine. ….

5. What is a hobby of yours (other than painting)?

Let me start by saying that painting was never a hobby to me, it is my reason to live! As for the actual hobby, I do love socializing with like-minded and big hearted friends. I also enjoy cooking.
