Spotlight: Q and A with Rached Bohsali

Q and A with Rached Bohsali (303 words, 2 min. read)

1. What is your inspiration in life, in general?

My environment, my inner emotions, observations and my passion for criticism-whether constructive or not-ae my main sources of inspiration.

2. What specific event triggered your career in art?

Art became my refuge when I had to shift away from architecture after being diagnosed with a physical condition at the age of 25. It limited my mobility and prevented me from visiting construction sites. What began as a hobby gradually evolved into a profession, and I eventually grew into a dedicated artist.

3. What do you consider your biggest achievement (in art or otherwise)?

My greatest achievement has been transforming my diagnosis of spinal muscular atrophy from a burden into a blessing. It led me to the freedom from an engineering discipline to embrace the two passions closest to my heart: visual art and teaching.

4. To what extent do you allow personal experiences to influence your art, and how?

.Entirely. For me, painting is neither purely retinal nor purely conceptual. It’s an amalgam of emotions—originating in the heart, filtered through the mind and eyes, and expressed through the hands onto paper or canvas. From there, it’s offered to the viewer—from my heart to theirs. A journey of feeling, translated into form and content.

5. What is your biggest dream?

After once facing harsh criticism, my greatest dream became to exhibit in a renowned art gallery. I embraced every opportunity that came my way. In time, I received international awards from royalty, exhibited in museums, and had my work featured in internationally referred publications.
